Born in Viena, and last pupil of Karl Österreicher, Lorenzo Ramos graduated in conduction at the High School of Music in Vienna. He participated in different masterclasses with renowned Professors like Eric Ericson and Helmuth Rilling. He is one of the four Spanish Conductors selected by the Madrid Opera House to take part in an atelier of conduction handled by Daniel Baremboim in July 2003.
From 1997 to 1998, he was Assistant Conductor of the Young National Orchestra of Spain (J.O.N.D.E.). From 1998 to 2002 he was Artistic and Music Director of the pupils chorus of San Lorenzo del Escorial Monastery. From 2001 to 2004, he was Music Director of the Young Orchestra of the Madrid Community (J.O.C.M.A.). From 2003 to 2005, he was Director of the National Chorus of Spain in Madrid, which he conducted for the Royal Wedding of Prince and Princess of Asturias in Madrid. During the last years, he was very active in Spain, conducting the main choral ensembles and orchestras of Spain: Spanish National Orchestra and Chorus, Symphony Orchestra and Chrorus of the RTVE, Symphony Orchestra of Madrid, Orchestra and Chorus of the Madrid Community; Euskadi Symphony Orchestra (San Sebastian), Young Orchestra of Euskal Herria, Orfeon Donostiarra Chorus; Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, Real Filharmonia Orchestra of Galicia; Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife; Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus of Gran Canaria; Principado de Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Oviedo; Castilla y Leon Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra; City of Granada Orchestra; City of Malaga Chamber Orchestra; "Andrés Segovia" Chamber Orchestra; Classic Orchestra of Madrid; "Cámara XXI", and "Modus Novus". He participated as Conductor in the following Festivals: Art Camera Wien, 1996; XVII Festival of Torroella de Montgrí, Spain 1997; Festival Are-More, Vigo, Spain 2001; XI Festival Arte Sacro, Madrid 2001; IX Cycle of Contemporary Music, Malaga 2002; XIX International Contemporary Music Festival, Alicante 2003; XI Zarzuela Festival of the Canary Islands, Las Palmas 2003; XI and XII Festival of Lyric Theatre of Asturias, Oviedo 2004 and 2005; XXXII Do Corpus Week, Lugo 2004; VI Music Season, Ubeda 2004; XII Edition of the Otońo Musical Soriano, Soria 2004, XXXIII "Festival Cervantino" of Guanajuato, Mexico (2005). For the 10th Anniversary of the Ancient Music Academy of the Salamanca University, he conducted the Baroque Chamber Orchestra and Chorus of the University, in a very successful production of Haendel’s Messiah. During the Seasons 2000/01 and 2002/03, he conducted productions of "Cosě fan tutte"; "Amahl and the evening visitors" with the "Arte Opera" Company, as well as "Pan y Toros" and "La Bruja" ("the witch) at the Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid, production which he repeated in Oviedo during the season 2003/04. In 2005, he conducts at the Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid "La Venta de Don Quijote" of Chapí, and Falla’s "El Retablo de Maese Pedro" to commemorate the 4th Centenary of "El Quijote", production on tour in Spain and Mexico. His most memorable appearance was an extraordinary concert, conducting the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, with Teresa Berganza and Lucero Tena, as tribute to his former Head Conductor, Jesús López Cobos. Furthermore, he collaborated with other soloists of international fame, such as Ainhoa Arteta, Asier Polo, Mischa Maisky, Anatol Ugorsky, Nelson Freire... He made 4 recordings with the pupils chorus of the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Monastery, and another recording of Basque songs with Ainhoa Arteta and the Symphony Orchestra of the RTVE. He also recorded on many occasions for the National Radio and Television of Spain. His extensive repertory covers all kinds and styles from the 16th century to nowadays, with particular attention to the 20th century and avant-garde music (he premiered many works of new composers), and also to thematic concerts ("Jazz and the 20th century Classics", "Hunor in Music"... ). Lorenzo Ramos’s performances are very praised by the audience and the critics, being considered as one of the young Conductors with major projection among the national and international world. |
