Born in Crevillente (Spain), he attended singing studies in Barcelona and Madrid. Later on, he improved his vocal tecnique with professors G.Bechi, G.Simionato, A.Kraus, Carlo Bergonzi y Giaccomo Lauri Volpi, and in the School of Scala di Milano.
He won the following prizes: National Singing Prize of Spain, Francisco Viñas International Contest, Prize “Plácido Domingo” for best tenor, Accademia Chiggiana Prize, as well as many distinctions and awards in Toulouse, Venezia, Busseto, Viena and Pamplona. In the 1992/93 season he won the First Golden Prize of the critique in Italy “Lauri Volpi” for best new artist, due to his success in the festival Arena di Verona. He made his debut in Teatro Reggio di Parma with “Falstaff” and “Rigoletto”, that he later on sang in Modena, Ferrara and Reggio Emilia. In the following seasons he sang in the best opera houses of Europe, including Covent Garden in London, La Scala di Milano, Liceo in Barcelona, Opera Bastille in Paris, Staatsoper in Viena, Amsterdam, Alter Oper in Frankfurt, Munich, La Fenice in Venezia, Teatro Real in Madrid, Tokio, Osaka, Oviedo, San Sebastián, Santander, Las Palmas, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga, Granada, Roma, Belgrado, Budapest, Ravena, Bérgamo, Lisboa, Jerusalén, Verona, Nápoles, Palermo, etc. He has worked with prestigious conductors including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, G.Gavazzeni, M.W.Chung, Viotti, Campanella, Accardo, Benini, Campori, Chaslin, Luisi, Haider, Fourniller, Gómez Martínez, V.Pablo, Odón Alonso, etc. His most notable performances in the last seasons include his performances of Lord Arturo in “I Puritani” at the Staatsoper in Viena and in Maestranza Theatre in Seville with Editha Gruberova and Mariella Devia; “Manon” with María Bayo; “Guglielmo Tell” in Rome and Viena, and “Beatrice di Tenda” at the Liceo in Barcelona. He has recorded “Poliuto” by Donizetti with Maestro G. Gavazzeni; “Don Pasquale” for RAI; “Esclarmonde” by Massenet with Maestro Fournille; “El Barberillo de Lavapiés” with Joan Pons, Manuel Lanza, María Bayo and Maestro V.Pablo; “Inés de Castro” for Ricordi , a concert at Arena di Verona for Poligram, as well as 3 CDs with arias of opera and zarzuela. In October 2001 he recorded “La Fattucchiera” at Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona, and “Rigoletto” in Rome in December. In 2001 he sang “Rigoletto”, “I Puritani” and “Guglielmo Tell” at Staatsoper in Viena, the last one with Thomas Hampson, with an extraordinary international success. His performances of “I Puritani” in Seville and at the Liceo in Barcelona were also acclaimed by the critics as perfect performances. In november-december 2006 he obtained a great success with a tour in Japan singing "Tosca" with Janet Eagle. This tour was repeated in 2007 with "Turandot". In Japan again and in EE.UU. he will sing zarzuela and ópera, apart from "Rigoletto" with Carlos Álvarez, "Norma", "La Fille du Regiment", etc. |
