ALESSIO BAX - Iberkonzert, Artist Management and Concerts Production
Gold Medalist of the universally acknowledged Leeds International Pianoforte Competition in 2000, Alessio Bax is already established as an accomplished performer throughout the world. His winning performance in Leeds of Brahms Piano Concerto no. 1 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle touched audience and jury alike.

In 1997, when he was not yet twenty, Bax was unanimously awarded the First Prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition. Since then he appears, year after year, with all the main orchestras and in the most prestigious venues of Japan.

Bax has performed in some of the world's most prestigious venues, such as the Royal Festival Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Suntory Hall, Kioi Hall, Casals Hall and Saitama Hall in Tokyo, the Izumi Hall in Osaka, the Auditorium di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Munich's Herkulessaal, the NDR Sendessaal in Hannover, the Great Hall of the Liszt Academy in Budapest, New York's Town Hall, the Kravis Center in Palm Beach and the Sala Nezahualcóyotl in Mexico City among others.

His festival appearances include the London International Piano Series, the Aldeburgh, Bath and Harrogate festivals in England, the Ruhr Klavierfestival, BeethovenFest Bonn and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany, Canary Island Festival in Spain, as well as the Ottawa Chamber Festival in Canada, and the Mimir Festival in Fort Worth.
His extensive concerto repertoire has lead him to appear with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, the City of Birmingham Symphony, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National, Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Orchestre National de Lille, Tenerife Symphony, Spanish Radio Television Symphony, Rome Symphony, Sicilian Symphony, Hungarian Symphony, NHK Symphony, Tokyo Symphony and New Japan Philharmonic. He has worked with a number of esteemed conductors such as Marin Alsop, Petr Altrichter, Sergiu Commissiona, Vernon Handley, Owain Arwel Hughes, Ken-ichiro Kobayashi, Sir Simon Rattle and Dimitry Sitkovetsky.

Since 2004, Alessio Bax is a Warner Classics Artist. His debut CD for the label, titled "Baroque Reflections" , received rave reviews by the international press and was selected as "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone magazine and "Best Buy" by Classical FM Magazine.

In 2003, Bax recorded with his wife, Lucille Chung, the complete works for two pianos and piano four hands of Gyorgy Ligeti for Dynamic. His live recording of the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 with the New Japan Philharmonic recorded live was released in 1997 (Fontec). His second release for Fontec was a live recording of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Hamamatsu Symphony Orchestra and a recital. In 1996 he recorded the complete works for piano and organ of Marcel Dupré with organist Stefan Engels (Naxos).
In January 2005, Alessio Bax was chosen to play the Fugue of Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" Sonata for Maestro Daniel Barenboim in "Barenboim on Beethoven". The documentary was produced by Channel 13/WNET, in conjunction with Bel Air Media, BBC, ARTE France and NHK Japan. It will be broadcast worldwide and will also be released as a DVD box set at the end of 2006.
In August 2005, together with Lucille Chung, he recorded Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals with conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. The disc will be released at the end of the year.

His performances have been broadcast live on BBC Radio, BBC 2 TV, RAI (Italy), RTVE (Spain), NHK (Japan), WDR, NDR and Bayerische Rundfunk (Germany), Hungarian Radio Television and Serbian RTE, among others.

Major engagements this season include an extensive tour of Spain with the Castilla y Leon Symphony Orchestra (Brahms Concerto no. 2), a live broadcast on Italian National TV in Padua (Gerswhin Rhapsody in Blue), recitals in Rome for the Uto Ughi Series, in Tokyo for the 10-year long "Pianist 100" at Saitama Hall, and for the "International Pianists in Mainz" series, as well as recitals and chamber music performances in Canada, Italy, New York, and Washington, DC. Early next year Bax will be performing with the Extremadura Orchestra of Spain, and on recital tours in Italy and Germany.

Bax graduated with top honors from the Conservatory of Bari, in his native Italy, at the record age of fourteen. For four consecutive years, he attended the Chigiana Academy in Siena, from which he received an Honors Diploma. In 1994 he gained a scholarship to study with the Spanish maestro, Joaquín Achúcarro, at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Bax has since obtained an Artist Certificate and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the same university and is now on the teaching faculty of the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University.
